The beauty of a connected online world is that when a group of people decided to put their heads together, they could really conjure up brilliant things.
Found two more plagiarized poem. Klynnismail first pointed this out;
"jannah, if you have the time, please compare her "si kura kura kecil" vs the nursery rhyme "i have a little turtle". i'm starting to get disturbed about this..."
We were having a two days practicum workshop so I didn't really have the time to do more googling, plus I've yet to get a copy of Natasha's book (you think with the publicity on the book this topic generates will she give me a copy of the book FOC?) so imagine my surprise when I discovered a forum thread has started over at Cari, Malaysia's own search engine website.
Someone posted Sharon Bakar's entry that linked to my open blog post to Natasha Hudson into the initial thread and from there the discussion started to heat up.
Someone owned a copy of Syair Si Pari-Pari, Ms Natasha's collection of Malay poems intended for children and pasted two poems, "Si Kura-Kura Kecil",
and "Mentega kuning, jelly ungu, jam merah, roti hitam"
Someone even commented in Sharon Bakar's blog post saying something about familiarity.
All I want to say about the additional Nursery Rhymes Malay Versions is;
"Fool me once, shame on you,
Fool me twice, shame on me,
Fool me thrice, shame on [insert expletives followed by wtfs and a big Homer's DUH!]"
I love my sister-in-law.
P/s Minta semua yang concern about this issue write a poem like what the lovely senorita did and blog about it :)

My goodness this is really sick man! ..never thought Natasha would plagiarized mcgrough's work! dia ingat kat malaysia ni takda orang minat literature ke? I'm an english literature student and there's A LOT MORE of english literature students out there! orang yang tak minat literature secara mendalam pun boleh tahu yang dia sudah plagiarize kerja famous poets. haih, sungguh ku tidak percaya.. I used to like her, though. tsk tsk.
Ms. Jannah,
I haven't read Natasha Hudson's book, but I'm intrigued by the plagiarism issue after reading Sharon Bakar's blog which linked your original post on the matter.
I agree with you that concerned bloggers alert the issue in their respective blogs as well. Don't forget to quote Ms. Jannah and Sharon Bakar's related entries.
To Natasha Hudson,
If you are telling the truth, why don't you yourself conduct a press conference on the matter to prove your innocence? Oh, do remember to draft and re-draft your answer(s). The ones you wrote here were EXTREMELY LAME!
please get over the issue. its not even an issue!
its not an issue in the same vein of trying to combat world hunger or reducing carbon emissions, i give u that.
but this borderlines on thievery!
just own up apologize and we all will move on.
keep quiet and u'll leave the masses to our mob mentality and more bashing will ensue
the discussion kat cari.com.my dah takde ke..
Diyana,
I liked her too. I still do. I think she was adorable in that Celcom commercial where she was deciding which hairstyle suits her best for a hot date.
I thought she would apologize and do the right thing. I'm still hoping she does exactly that.
Chech,
A press conference before this goes international. Unless she's taking this as a publicity stunt and decided there's no such thing as a bad press so long your name is out there.
Remember to pull a Natasha and insert poems both in Malay and English and credit the original poet :)
Anon No 1,
If it's not an issue it wouldn't have gotten other people's attention.
Acat,
Mob mentality. Brings to mind Mary Antoinette?
"Let them eat Kek Coklat!"
As someone who understands how difficult it is to get published, I'm hurt and offended that someone from my own country would abuse the privilege.
This is my sad face.
D:
y'll just plain jealous she gets the opportunity. come on. get over it! its not her who's feeding all y'all! get over it.
jealous?... gila takde keja.
cuba contohi seperti buku wilayah kutu, sinaganaga punye buku... dan blogger-blogger lain yang dah buat buku...
kalau ada effort semua benda jadi senang.
nak jeles? pfttt. gila takde keja.
Does not mean she married a Dato , she can get away from it.. pls la.. is all about rites. Org lain perah otak, dia senang je curi n called it her's ..hello!!
-Blogger-
Is that you, Ms. Nat aka rude anon that insults pretty much every decent honest blogger? Seriously, we're on to you. Not much to figure out anyway since you really do have your very own writer's voice that just separates you from us lot making you oh so special and see-through.
So when are you going to come up with an apology? By the tone of your language, you do sound desperate for it all to end. Be honest, do the right thing. I'm sure you've thought about it before.
acat... discussion kat situ
masih ada lagi... dan masih panas dibincangkan...
Dear Jannah,
I am not a writer and I do not intend to be one. I have, however, alerted my small group of readers to this issue and have linked your entry to mine.

Thanks for alerting me.
can someone give me the Cari link?
May,
No problem. Spread the love.
diyana,
You have to register in Cari Forum first. Then click on the link in this post :)
dia lawa dan lawak.
How again? to masuk cari forum?
The Cari Forum
But you have to register first. Be on the lookout for a Phylox :)
sibuk je nak tuntut kemaafan. pakai tudung lu la wei nak tuntut kemaafan konon. tuntut ni keje Tuhan je. Kita tak layak nak menuntut ape2. ntah pape nak paksa2 mintak maaf lak. biakan jela kat die nak senyap ke, nak buat ape ke. yg kamu semua sibuk2 tak tentu hala kenapa? takde isu lain dah smp nak jatuhkan kaum kamu sendiri? takde isu lain dah nak bincang? cuba la tulis sesuatu yg lebih berfaedah. bincang sesuatu yg lebih berilmiah sikit. malu la sikit. kamu tu cik Jannah, tolong la jgn sibuk2. kita taktentu esok lusa nasib kita lebih teruk dari die.. jadik, takpayah nak panjangkan. tahu la die nak perbaiki. dia salah ke tak ke, jujur ke tipu ke, nawaitu die. dgn Tuhan. Kite ape tahu. tlg la, tak pyh la bangkit isu ni. n aku mintak maaf utk semua komen2 bekap natasha hudson selama ni. Maaf. aku cuma rasa ia tak penting utk dibahaskan. baik bagi penggemar buku/ sajak ape ape jela. ingatlah ape yg kite buat ade balasan. bia jela die. Maaf skali lagi
every time aku baca komen anonymous yang macam bagus ni aku rasa macam nak mencarut aje.
agaknya itu lah reaction yang cuba di incite?
nak jadi rasional and cuba jelaskan pun tak guna.
don't take it personally la natasha, if it were another person pun i promise ya the reaction would be the same. if they did what u did la that is, ie go on record in saying u wrote the originals citing ur childhood experience. the fact that some of the comments were bringing in other unrelated issues to the mix to kira nasib aa kan.
ur actions are deplorable. full stop.
en khalid acat baby,
abaikan la komen tu. we all know it's her. kes menegakkan benang basah.
let's wait for the right people to highlight this in the media. as far as we know, Pancaindera (Mingguan Malaysia, 20 Januari 2008) dah highlight under Joyah's column. Tapi info tak updated la tapi. My grammar oso going bonkers after reading the atrocious grammar of anonymous/phylox/datin natasha hudson.
Anonymous,
Saya tidak pernah bring up Ms Natasha's personal life. Itu hak peribadi masing-masing. Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim lagi pemurah lagi maha penyayang.
Kehidupan penulis atau penyajak adalah karya dan hasil penulisan mereka. They live for their art. So if stealing someone's work is no big deal, how do you justify the work being halal or not?
Do you know she intends to sedekah some part of the booksales to charity?
Nizam Nuri,
UPSR mengajar kita membaca, menulis mengira. Jadi tiada masalah untuk anonymous people to go online and do more research about plagiarism kan?
Acat,
It's called the diversion technique. It's running away from the real issue, plagiarism. It's a coward's way out.
Hot Mama senorita,
Let's all wait. She can't hide under the coconut shell forever.
jannah. check my blog please. thanks!! there was an article i'm sure was about this in the newspaper.
Shoulda noticed something was odd with the Malay version of the poems in the first place. Take the puisi "Mentega kuning, jeli ungu, jam merah, roti hitam" for example. And compare it with its English counterpart. You guys were right when you pointed out that it doesn't make sense in Malay. What struck me as odd was the existence of "roti hitam". In its English counterpart, I'm pretty sure it's not meant to be a burnt toast, but rather the pumpernickel, a type of German bread, which I'm pretty sure is not at all that common in Malaysia (or could black bread be black pudding which is actually a sausage in Britain?). So if she really wrote this herself, what metaphor does this "roti hitam" is supposed to represent in our cultural context?
Then again, I'm no literature scholar. *shrugs* But from my point of observation, the three poems highlighted from her book do not make any sense at all from our cultural perspective. So yeah, I agree that they're plagiarised work.
For shame.
