There's someone I need to tell you about

Her favourite color was blue.

Her favourite band was U2.

She was crazy for Bono especially during his long haired Rattle and Hum days.

She was quick to laughter. I can still hear her loud guffaw.

She was an ardent fan of Manchester United FC. You could start a fight with her if you bad mouth the Red Devils. She bought a small Fred the Red soft toy and made the red munchkin sleep with her miniature Gorilla named Bono.

She gave good advice. She had a degree from the University of Life.

She made me memorized Backstreet Boys songs because of the repetitive play on the CD player, insisting to pump up the volume during our session in the kitchen late at night washing the dishes.

She loved the movie “Notting Hill”, “Pretty Woman”, “Conspiracy Theory”, “Braveheart” and the list goes on. She was a movie buff and transferred that enthusiasm to the other siblings by being the monetary benefactor when it came to renting videos. We grew up drinking her favourite beverage Coca Cola and watching films.

She was a generous sister. She would take me out to the cinema (hey watch Sumolah yo). She didn’t get to finish the Lord of the Rings trilogy. When we went to watch the Return of the King there was an empty seat next to ours and I would like to believe she was sitting there watching the movie with us.

She also adored Keanu Reeves. Everyone does I guess.

She had a crystal collection, bracelets, and a huge pendant of Blue Tiger Eyes worn with Italian silver. We still get a good discount at the crystal shop she frequented in Central Market.

She had a best friend who loves her so much and still misses her. Every time I go out with her best friend we would talk about her, and I’ve even learned stuff about my sister that I never knew.

She was pursuing a diploma in PR when she died. Doctors believed it was a heart attack brought on by her asthma.

I was in Penang, having a class when I received the call. I didn’t make it to see her one last time. When I reached KL everything was over. I only saw earth and nothing more. Khalil said he kissed her cheek two times, one for him and one for me.

I miss you so much Kak Ima. I wish you were here so I could whine about my life and you’d be able to say, “Enough already. Move on. He’s not worth it if he can’t see what a catch you are.”

Happy birthday. You’d be 34 this year.

I love you, I love you.

Hey there, sis.

Thank you. This is so beautiful, like our Kak Ima. Even though it's been four years now, it feels like only yesterday that we heard her laugh. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not. I miss her so.

Love you Jan.
